History

An age-old story

rooted in tradition,
here is our story

Over seven centuries ago, the citizens of Apt gave candied fruits to Pope Urban V who was visiting the town on pilgrimage. Later, in the 17th century, Madame de Sévigné in a letter to her daughter, Madame de Grignan, called the town of Apt “a cauldron of jam”.  And so, over the centuries the town has become recognised as a centre for confectionery with, in particular, the creation of many artisan production units.

After the second world war the first signs of groups of candied fruit manufacturers appeared. The younger generation of confectioners wanted to master new management methods and move their businesses into the flourishing industrial era.

In 1962, several family confectionery companies in Apt joined together to form APTUNION.

Today

With international reach and high-performing industrial resources, APTUNION combines tradition and modern technology, adapting its production workshops to 21st century requirements and remains one of the greatest specialists in candied fruit.
