Each year, 10,000 tonnes of fruit are washed, rinsed and blanched in our factories. About 3,000 tonnes of dissolved sugar were previously processed at the treatment plant. Now sugar water can produce gas using the first methanizer in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. In a sustainable development approach, Aptunion has invested 4 million euros to produce biogas from dissolved sugar. Installation containing water, sugar and bacteria produces gas with sugar water by a natural biological process of organic matter degradation in the oxygen absence. Besides, Methanation plant is connected to town gas network to supply equivalent of 4,000 inhabitants with 3,000 tonnes of dissolved sugar. Biogas produced has been reinjected into network since January 23, odorless and above all allowing transformation of waste into sustainable resources. A real approach to sustainable development.
